Description

There are portraits that become prayers, and this pendant is both. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is rendered here in sterling silver, his profile etched with the gravity it deserves. The antique finish, achieved through careful oxidation of the metal, draws shadows into every engraved line, giving the portrait dimensionality and age, as though it were recovered from a royal treasury rather than newly wrought. The silhouette measures 1.2 inches in height by 0.7 inches in width (approximately 3 cm by 1.8 cm), a compact oval form that concentrates considerable detail into 6.2 grams of silver. This kind of commemorative portraiture in oxidised sterling belongs to a long tradition of devotional and heroic silver work practised across Maharashtra and parts of Rajasthan, where the karigar's chisel transforms a flat sheet of metal into something closer to a commemorative medallion than a conventional pendant. Wear it on a fine silver chain with a hand-loomed cotton kurta for daily use, or suspend it from a heavier twisted silver cord over a silk achkan for a formal occasion where personal conviction is itself an ornament. At free size, the pendant sits at a standard drop depending on the chosen chain. The antique oxidised surface resists superficial tarnish better than bright-polished silver and requires only occasional gentle cleaning with a soft cloth to keep the portrait's lines crisp and legible.
