Description

There are colours in Jaipur that have no name in English. This pendant belongs to that unmapped palette. Set at its heart is a smooth agate cabochon, its surface carrying the quiet, banded depth that only a natural stone can hold. Around it, the meenakari work unfolds in the manner Jaipur's craftsmen have practised for generations: powdered mineral pigments fired into recessed silver-toned metal, building a skin of colour that is at once glassy and warm. The enamel here reads in the tones visible in the piece, with fine linework bordering each field, the kind of discipline that takes years to steady into instinct. The silhouette is gently elongated, measuring approximately 4.6 cm in height and 3.8 cm in width, and the pendant is substantial without being heavy, weighing 29 grams. For a daytime occasion, thread it onto a fine gold-toned chain and wear it over a hand-block-printed kurta in ivory or ecru; the enamel will draw out whatever buried colour lives in the fabric. In the evening, it settles equally well against the silk of a Banarasi blouse, where the agate's cool surface and the fired enamel create a quiet conversation with the weave. The piece is free-sized, designed to fit any standard chain or cord. The meenakari surface, once fired, is durable under ordinary wear. At its price, it is an honest introduction to a craft that has furnished the jewel boxes of courts and collectors alike.
