Description

Devotion, when cast in brass, becomes something you can carry close to the heart. The Adiyogi endures as one of the most arresting images in Indian sacred iconography: the meditating Shiva, matted locks piled high, third eye barely closed, the trishul rising as an axis between earth and cosmos. Here, that vision is rendered as a brooch in cast brass, the surface worked to bring out the quiet drama of the face and the triple prongs of the weapon he wields. Brass has long been the metal of temple precincts and domestic shrines across the subcontinent, its warm ochre tone ageing into something richer with time. At two and a half inches tall by one and a half inches wide (approximately 6.5 cm by 3.9 cm), and weighing a solid 29 grams, the piece has genuine heft without overwhelming the hand or the cloth it rests upon. Pin this at the centre of a raw silk kurta for a puja gathering, where the antiqued brass reads as quietly ceremonial. Equally, it anchors a plain linen blazer worn over a white cotton shirt, bringing intention to an otherwise understated frame. Free-sized and finished with a standard pin-back closure, the brooch sits securely on medium to heavy fabrics. The uncoated brass will deepen with wear, developing a patina that makes each piece, over time, entirely its own.
