Wool Shawl with Woven Flowers and Paiselys in Multi-Color from Amritsar
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
A garden in winter, arrested in thread. Woven in the looms of Amritsar, this wool shawl carries the unhurried grammar of the Punjab plains: flowering motifs and the curved, restless paisley rendered in a palette that moves from Black Onyx and Blueprint to the warmer registers of Honey Yellow, Peach Blossom, and Cannoli Cream. The wool is substantial without heaviness, the kind that settles across the shoulders with quiet authority and softens further with every wearing. Amritsar has long been a custodian of the kani and loom-woven shawl tradition, and this piece honours that lineage through its structured repeat and considered colour balance. It is equally at ease over a morning kurta on a cool December terrace as it is folded across the arm at an evening gathering. Drape it loosely over a plain anarkali or a fine merino sweater and let the woven flowers do the speaking. On quieter days, wrap it close and wear it as the whole statement.

Behind this piece
Amritsar has long been the northern heart of India's shawl-weaving tradition, where Punjabi artisans work on pit looms to produce textiles of exceptional weight and warmth. This shawl carries that lineage forward through its woven flowers and paisleys, rendered in a palette that spans Black Onyx and Honey Yellow, Peach Blossom and Blueprint. The paisley itself traces its ancestry to the Kashmiri buta, reinterpreted here through the Amritsari weaver's own grammar. Wool gives the motifs a slight textural relief, so the florals seem to bloom from the cloth rather than sit atop it.
How to style
Draped over a winter-white Lucknowi kurta set, this shawl becomes the entire statement; let juttis in tan leather and a pair of polki earrings complete the look for a festive afternoon gathering. For cooler evenings out, fold it lengthwise over a camel coat above slim trousers and ankle boots. On quieter days, the Cannoli Cream or Bleached Sand versions work beautifully wrapped over a fine cotton salwar suit, with a single oxidised silver bangle kept as the only adornment. Each colourway rewards a different occasion without ever demanding effort.
Fabric & care
Wool breathes but does not forgive carelessness. Hand-wash this shawl in cool water with a gentle, pH-neutral soap, working the fabric softly rather than wringing it. Rinse thoroughly and press out excess water between two clean towels; never twist. Dry flat in shade, away from direct heat or sunlight, which can lift the colour over time. Once dry, fold along the woven lines and store in a breathable muslin bag with a cedar block nearby to discourage moths. Treated with this small discipline, a well-made wool shawl will only grow richer across years of wear.
