about the piece,

Description

There are greens that do not shout, and this is one of them. Woven from Tusha wool, the finest grade drawn from the underbelly of the Changthangi goat, this stole carries the particular weightlessness that only Kashmir's high-altitude fleece can offer. Across its Southern Moss ground, Sozni needlework traces floral vines and paisleys in the unhurried tradition of the Kashmir Valley, where artisans work with a single strand of thread to build motifs of extraordinary delicacy. The Sozni technique, practised across generations in the workshops of Srinagar and its neighbouring villages, is distinguished by its restraint: line by careful line, the embroidery never overwhelms the textile beneath it. The result is a stole that breathes, drapes without effort, and rewards close attention. Wear it folded loosely over a winter kurta in wool or silk, allowing the embroidery to surface gradually as the cloth settles. It travels equally well as a shoulder wrap over a tailored coat for an evening that deserves something quietly considered.

Gentle & simple
the story,

Behind this piece

Tusha is among the rarest grades of Kashmiri pashmina, woven from the neck-fibre of the Changthangi goat at weights so fine the fabric seems to breathe. Upon this delicate ground, Sozni needlework is laid by hand, stitch by patient stitch, by craftsmen who inherit the discipline of the old shawl quarters of Srinagar and Kanihama. The floral vines and paisleys rendered here belong to a grammar of ornament that travelled through Mughal court ateliers into the domestic life of Kashmir, and has never left. Southern Moss gives the field a quiet, woodland depth.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this stole loosely folded over the shoulders of an ivory or ecru kurta for a winter lunch, letting the Southern Moss speak against pale ground. For an evening occasion, drape it across one arm over a silk saree in deep teal or plum, and pair with oxidised silver jhumkas from Rajasthan. On cooler diaspora mornings, knot it at the throat over a camel or chocolate wool coat and let the Sozni embroidery serve as the singular ornament. Kolhapuri chappals or simple tan leather brogues complete each look without competition.

to last,

Fabric & care

Tusha wool is exceptionally fine and rewards careful handling. Hand-wash in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral shampoo, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Press the water out softly and lay the stole flat on a clean white towel to dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the dyed ground over time. Iron on the lowest wool setting with a pressing cloth between iron and embroidery. Fold along the grain rather than rolling, and store in a muslin or cotton bag with a cedar block to discourage moths.

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
