about the piece,

Description

Woven in the quiet of a Kashmiri winter, this stole carries the patience of two distinct hands within a single length of cloth. The foundation is pure wool, drawn into fine parallel stripes of Crystal Pink and Vanilla Cream, their rhythm steady and unhurried as the loom itself. Against this woven ground, needle-worked paisleys emerge through the kari tradition of hand embroidery, each boteh shaped with the controlled confidence that Kashmir's craftsmen have practised across generations. The self-weave structure lends the stole a subtle dimensionality, texture speaking softly beneath the embroidered surface. Together, the two techniques honour a region where the distinction between weaving and embroidery has long been a matter of conversation, not competition. This is wool in its most considered form, warm without weight, generous without excess. Drape it loosely over the shoulders at an evening gathering where understated elegance is more eloquent than ornament. It sits equally well folded across the lap on a long winter flight, a quiet reminder of where craft still lives.

the story,

Behind this piece

Kashmir has woven its climate into its cloth for centuries. This stole is made from pure wool and carries two of the valley's most revered techniques in one length of fabric: the self-weave, where the stripe pattern is built directly on the loom through careful manipulation of warp and weft, and the needle hand-embroidery known as sozni, whose fine paisleys are stitched individually by craftsmen in the villages surrounding Srinagar. The paisley, called keri in Kashmiri, has moved through Mughal courts and colonial trade routes without ever losing its valley-born character.

to wear it,

How to style

Wrap this stole loosely over a ivory silk kurta and straight palazzo for a winter gathering, letting the crystal pink stripes catch the light. For daytime, fold it into a wide shoulder drape over a camel wool coat and pair with tan juttis. At a festive evening occasion, knot it at the collarbone over a plain cream anarkali and add a single gold kada and earrings in polki or uncut diamond work. The vanilla cream ground works as a neutral anchor, making the stole adaptable across both casual and ceremonial dressing without effort.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure wool breathes and softens with age when treated with respect. Hand-wash this stole in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral shampoo or wool wash; never wring or twist the fabric. Press out excess water by rolling it in a clean dry towel, then dry flat in shade away from direct sunlight, which dulls natural fibres over time. Do not hang to dry, as wet wool stretches under its own weight. Store folded in a muslin or cotton bag with dried neem leaves or cedar to deter moths. Re-fold along different lines each season to prevent permanent crease marks.
