Behind this piece
Bangalore has long been the quiet custodian of art silk weaving in South India, a tradition that flourished when the city became a hub for power-loom textile production in the mid-twentieth century. This saree carries that legacy forward through its field of zari-woven blooms, each flower tessellated into the fabric with the precision that Bangalore's weavers refined over generations. The contrast peacock border, bold and ceremonial in spirit, draws from motifs common to Karnataka's courtly textile vocabulary. The Sahara-sun warmth of the ground colour gives the weave an almost luminous depth in natural light.
How to style
Wear this saree in a Nivi drape for a formal afternoon occasion, paired with a sleeveless raw-silk blouse in ivory or deep teal to let the peacock border command attention. For a wedding reception, a full-sleeved brocade blouse in the border's contrast colour elevates the look considerably. Complete either with oxidised silver temple jewellery, a broad choker and long jhumkas. Low block-heeled kolhapuris in tan or gold keep the silhouette grounded. For a semi-formal setting, a simple cotton-silk blouse and minimal gold studs allow the zari flowers to speak without competition.
Fabric & care
Art silk is a cellulose-based fibre, typically viscose, and requires gentle handling to retain its lustre. Dry-clean this saree for the first two washes to preserve the zari thread integrity. If hand-washing at home, use cold water with a mild detergent and never wring or twist the fabric. Lay flat on a clean towel to absorb moisture, then hang-dry in shade. Iron on a low-heat silk setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the zari work. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and refold along different lines every few months.
