the story,

Behind this piece

Sozni is the quieter art of Kashmir, worked entirely by hand with a single needle and gossamer thread on cloth so fine it passes through a finger ring. Here, that discipline meets pure Pashmina, the combed undercoat of Changthangi goats raised on the Changthang plateau of Ladakh, at altitudes above four thousand metres. The multicolour paisleys that bloom across the field are Sozni's signature: each form built stitch by minute stitch, while the Kani border introduces a second tradition, the loom-woven tapestry technique of Kanihama village, woven on special wooden bobbins.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape it diagonally over an ivory Lucknawi kurta set for a winter wedding reception, and let the multicolour thread do the work of jewellery. For daywear abroad, fold it into a wide wrap over a camel cashmere coat, grounding the look with tan leather boots. At a festive gathering, pin it at one shoulder over a silk Banarasi lehenga blouse and pair with uncut polki ear drops in gold; the Sozni paisleys will read as embroidery on the silhouette itself. All three looks need nothing added.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand wash once a season at most, in cold water with a capful of mild shampoo or baby wash; never wring or twist. Rinse gently, press water out between two dry towels, and lay flat on a clean surface away from direct sunlight. Do not hang while wet, as Pashmina fibres stretch under their own weight. Once fully dry, fold along existing creases and store wrapped in a cotton muslin cloth, never plastic. A cedar block nearby discourages moths without the chemical residue that damages fine fibres over years.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
