Plain Pure Cashmere Woven Scarf from Nepal
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
Some textures ask nothing of you except that you slow down and feel them. This scarf is woven in Nepal from one hundred per cent pure cashmere, the fibre combed from the undercoat of Himalayan pashmina goats that graze at high altitude, where the cold coaxes each strand into exceptional fineness. Nepal's weaving tradition draws on centuries of cross-cultural craft, shaped by Tibetan textile knowledge and refined through generations of mountain artisans working on hand-looms. The result is a fabric that is at once weightless and genuinely warm, with a softness that deepens rather than diminishes with wear. Available in a considered palette ranging from undyed Beige and smoked Charcoal Gray to the warmer tones of Chicory Coffee and the more spirited Firecracker and Salsa Red, each shade holds its character quietly. The weave is plain and unadorned, which is precisely its strength: nothing competes with the quality of the fibre itself. Drape it over a fine merino or layer it across the shoulders of a silk kurta on a cool evening. The neutral tones travel well; the deeper shades make a simple outfit feel deliberate.

Behind this piece
Nepal has long been the quiet centre of the world's finest cashmere weaving, its artisans working at high altitude with fibres combed from the underbelly of Himalayan goats. This plain-weave scarf honours that restraint: no embellishment, no distraction, only the integrity of the fibre itself. The tight, even hand-loom weave produces a surface that is simultaneously weightless and warm, a quality cashmere from Kathmandu's valley workshops has been praised for since the trade routes that connected Nepal to Persia and northern India were still busy with merchant caravans.
How to style
Drape the Chicory Coffee or Charcoal Gray loosely over a cream Lucknow chikankari kurta for a considered winter afternoon look. For formal occasions, fold the Opaline Green into a neat shoulder wrap over a silk Banarasi saree, anchored with a single gold Kundan brooch. The Firecracker or Salsa Red reads beautifully against a dark navy or charcoal wool sherwani during a winter wedding reception. Ground any pairing with kolhapuri flats or low-heeled mojris and let the scarf remain the quiet focal point. Avoid heavy necklaces; the scarf earns its own space.
Fabric & care
Hand-wash in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent or specialist wool wash; never wring or twist the fabric. Gently press excess water out by rolling the scarf inside a clean dry towel. Lay it flat on a fresh surface away from direct sunlight to reshape and dry. Do not hang cashmere to dry, as the weight of wet fibre stretches the weave permanently. Store folded, never on a hanger, wrapped in a breathable cotton muslin bag with a cedar block nearby to discourage moths. Treated this way, this scarf will soften and improve across many seasons.
