about the piece,

Description

There is a colour that belongs to dusk over the Rann, and this saree captures it completely. Woven in the bandhani tradition that has flourished across Kutch and Jamnagar for centuries, the fabric carries the distinctive resist-tied dots that generations of Gujarati artisans have perfected through patient hand-work before a single thread meets the dye. The base is georgette, a fabric prized for its fluid drape and subtle luminosity, which allows the legion blue to shift gently between depths as the light changes. Laid across this ground, an all-over zari weave introduces a second language entirely, its gold threads tracing a rhythm that is both festive and restrained. The meeting of bandhani resist-work and metallic weave is characteristic of Gujarat's capacity to hold opposing energies in a single cloth. This saree suits weddings, evening ceremonies, and occasions where one wishes to be remembered without having tried. Pair it with uncut diamond or polki earrings to honour the craft's own restraint. A raw-silk blouse in ivory or antique gold would complete the composition without competing with the zari.

the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhani is among the oldest resist-dyeing traditions in the Indian subcontinent, practised with particular devotion in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat. Skilled artisans, many from the Khatri community, pluck and bind thousands of tiny fabric points by hand before the cloth enters the dye bath, each knot a deliberate act of trust. When the bindings are released, a constellation of white dots emerges across the surface. Here, that ancient technique meets all-over zari weave on fluid georgette, the metallic thread catching light against a deep legion blue that carries the gravity of indigo.

to wear it,

How to style

For a formal evening reception, pair this saree with a full-sleeved raw silk blouse in ivory and accessorise with gold polki jhumkas and block-heeled mojris in tan leather. At a festive daytime gathering, choose a sleeveless blouse in deep champagne, finish with temple-gold bangles and low kolhapuris. For a sophisticated office occasion where dress codes lean traditional, drape it in the classic Nivi style with a cropped structured blouse in midnight blue, keep jewellery spare, one gold chain and small studs, and complete the look with pointed-toe heels in cognac.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a delicate crepe-weave fabric that benefits from gentle handling. Dry-clean this saree to preserve both the zari weave and the bandhani knots, which can loosen under agitation. If hand-washing is unavoidable, use cold water and a mild detergent formulated for silks, with no wringing or twisting. Lay flat on a clean towel to remove excess water, then air-dry in shade to protect the legion-blue dye from fading. Store loosely rolled in a muslin cloth rather than folded sharply, as hard creases can weaken the zari threads over time.

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
