about the piece,

Description

A single chakra, blooming at the centre, tells the whole story of Kashmir before you have said a word. Woven from Tusha wool, the finest grade combed from the underbelly of the Changthangi goat, this stole carries the particular weightlessness that only the high-altitude pastures of Ladakh and the Jhelum valley together can produce. Against that luminous ground, Sozni needlework traces paisleys in the slow, disciplined grammar of a craft that Kashmiri artisans have practised for centuries, each motif built stitch by patient stitch on a single needle rather than a frame. The large chakra at the centre is not decoration alone; it is a compositional anchor, drawing the eye inward before releasing it across the scattered field of botehs. Available in six tones, from the cool certainty of Brilliant Blue to the quiet ceremony of Snow White, each colourway shifts the mood of the piece entirely. Drape it over a silk kurta for a winter wedding, or fold it lengthwise over one shoulder with a fine cotton sari for an evening that calls for something considered and unhurried.

the story,

Behind this piece

Tusha is among the rarest grades of Kashmiri wool, woven from the underbelly fleece of the Changthangi goat on traditional handlooms in the Kashmir Valley. What distinguishes this stole is the Sozni embroidery worked across its surface, a needle technique so fine that a single craftsperson may spend weeks completing one length of fabric. The paisleys here follow the classic keri form, a motif with roots in Mughal court textiles, while the large central chakra anchors the composition with ceremonial weight. Each stitch is pulled through from a single side, leaving the reverse almost clean.

to wear it,

How to style

In Snow White or Ivory and Blue, this stole reads as a finishing layer over an ivory chanderi kurta paired with column trousers and silver filigree jhumkas for a winter lunch or literary event. The Brilliant Blue colourway complements deep indigo or navy handloom silk sarees worn to evening gatherings, draped loosely over one shoulder. Impatiens Pink works beautifully alongside a pale blush Banarasi with antique kundan jewellery. For colder evenings, fold the Emerald Green lengthwise over a charcoal pheran-inspired coat and finish with block-printed mojris in earthy tones.

to last,

Fabric & care

Tusha wool is delicate and should be hand washed in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral shampoo or wool wash, never wrung or twisted. Rinse gently and press water out by rolling the stole inside a clean dry towel. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which weakens fine fibres and fades Sozni thread colours over time. Never hang to dry, as the weight of wet wool distorts the weave. Store folded, not rolled, wrapped in a cotton muslin cloth with a cedar block nearby to discourage moth damage. Avoid plastic storage bags.
