Georgette Saree with Aari Embroidered Flowers and Paisleys Jaal from Kashmir
Hand-wash gently with mild detergent. Do not wring. Dry in shade, iron on the lowest setting.
Description
Some flowers do not grow in soil; they are coaxed into existence by a needle, stitch by patient stitch, across the cool valleys of Kashmir. This georgette saree carries the distinctive mark of Aari embroidery, a craft practised by Kashmiri artisans who work with a hooked needle to build dense, flowing compositions from thread alone. The motif here is a jaal of blossoms and paisleys, a pattern language rooted in centuries of Mughal garden imagery that found its most enduring home in the Kashmir Valley. Georgette lends itself beautifully to this work: its soft drape holds the embroidery without stiffness, allowing the fabric to move with a quiet elegance. Available in Apricot Gelato, Aqua Sky, and Jet Black, each colourway offers a different emotional register, from the warmth of a summer afternoon to the authority of an evening gathering. Pair it with a silk blouse in a complementary tone and minimal gold jewellery to let the embroidery speak without competition. This saree is equally at ease at a festive luncheon or a formal cultural evening.

Behind this piece
Aari embroidery takes its name from the hooked needle, the aari, wielded by craftsmen across the Kashmir Valley for centuries. Unlike needle-and-thread techniques, the aari hook pulls yarn from beneath the fabric, creating the continuous, fluid chain stitches that give Kashmiri embroidery its distinctive density and sheen. Here, that vocabulary, blooming roses, sinuous paisleys, and wandering jaal lattices, is worked across featherlight georgette. The paisleys trace their lineage to the buta motif, long a symbol of fertility and abundance in the subcontinent. The result is something quietly regal: Kashmir's mountain patience, rendered on air.
How to style
In Apricot Gelato, this saree belongs at a daytime wedding or a mehendi gathering. Anchor it with ivory or antique-gold block-printed kurtas worn as blouses, and choose carved jadau earrings rather than a full set. The Aqua Sky colourway pairs beautifully with an ivory tissue blouse for a reception or a festive lunch; add silver kolhapuris and a single temple-gold bangle. Jet Black is effortlessly contemporary for a corporate festive event or an evening gala: pair it with a structured charcoal raw-silk blouse, pointed mules in nude leather, and a single strand of freshwater pearls.
Fabric & care
Georgette is a crinkled, twist-yarn fabric that loses its character under rough handling. Dry-clean this saree for the first wash to protect the aari embroidery and preserve the crinkle texture. If hand-washing, use cold water and a mild, ph-neutral detergent; never wring or scrub. Roll the saree gently in a clean towel to remove moisture, then hang to dry in shade away from direct sunlight. Store folded in soft muslin, not plastic, to allow the fabric to breathe. Re-fold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the georgette.
