about the piece,

Description

Amritsar has long known how to make celebration feel like second nature. This art silk dupatta carries the spirit of that city's festive craft traditions, where floral motifs are printed with a lightness that mirrors garden blooms caught in early morning light. Gota patti borders run along its edges in the manner of Rajasthani ribbon-work that has found a beloved home in Punjab's bridal and festive vocabulary, while scattered sequins catch and return whatever light falls upon them. Art silk lends the fabric a gentle drape and a subdued luminosity, making it easy to wear without the weight of heavier weaves. The palette spans from Aqua Glass and Tender Greens through blush and lavender tonalities, each suited to a different mood and season. Pair it over a straight-cut kurta in ivory or ecru for a daytime festivity, letting the gota patti do the quiet work of occasion. It also layers beautifully over a simple salwar suit when you wish to dress a familiar outfit with something that holds genuine handcraft.

the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been a crossroads of craft, where Punjabi textile traditions absorbed Mughal influences and made them entirely their own. Gota patti, the art of applying ribbon-thin strips of real or zari-edged metallic fabric onto cloth, flourished in the courts of Rajasthan and travelled north, finding a second home in the workshops of Punjab. Here, artisans layer it with sequin embroidery to catch light at every angle. On art silk, a fabric known for its luminous drape, these florals bloom with particular generosity, somewhere between a garden and a celebration.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this dupatta over a pale ivory or ecru kurta set for a Diwali gathering and let the gota patti carry all the occasion's weight. For a wedding reception, layer it across one shoulder of a heavily embroidered lehenga in a complementary neutral, anchored with polki or kundan earrings. On quieter days, pair the Tender Greens or Quiet Tide colourway with a fine cotton kurta and block-printed palazzo trousers, finishing with kolhapuri flats and a single thin gold bangle. The dupatta does the dressing for you.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a plant-derived or synthetic filament fibre that mimics the sheen of mulberry silk without its delicacy, though it still rewards careful handling. Hand wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation gentle to protect the sequins and gota patti ribbon work. Do not wring. Roll the dupatta in a clean cotton towel to draw out excess water, then dry flat and away from direct sunlight, which can shift the colour. Store folded in breathable muslin, never in plastic, and press only on a low setting with a pressing cloth.
