about the piece,

Description

Amritsar has always known how to dress a celebration. This dupatta carries the city's flair for ornament in every detail: gota patches catch the light with the quiet confidence of craft that does not need to announce itself, while the frill border adds a gentle flutter that is wholly feminine and wholly right. Art silk lends the fabric a luminous drape, fluid enough to settle over the shoulders like a whispered promise, substantial enough to hold its own against an embroidered kurta or a festive lehenga. Amritsar's artisans have long worked in this vocabulary of shimmer and trim, translating the exuberance of Punjab's wedding season into wearable, everyday joy. Available in eighteen colours, from the bold depth of Red Dahlia and Patriot Blue to the soft restraint of Double Cream and Lily White, there is a shade here for every temperament and occasion. Pair it loosely over a solid anarkali for a gathering that calls for colour without ceremony. For a wedding, let it fall across one shoulder over a richly worked suit and allow the frill to do the rest.

the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been a city of confluences, where trade routes and textile traditions met and transformed each other. The gota work embellishing this dupatta belongs to a lineage of metallic appliqué that travelled from Rajasthan into Punjab, finding new expression in the hands of urban artisans who layered it onto fine fabrics with architectural precision. Here, rectangular gota patches are placed with deliberate rhythm, and a frill border softens the composition's edge, balancing structure with movement. In art silk, the surface holds light the way still water holds the sky: quietly, completely.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this dupatta over a straight-cut kurta in ivory or ivory-adjacent tones, letting the gota patches read as jewellery against plain cloth, and wear it to a shaadi sangeet or a festive lunch. For a more composed silhouette, pin it across one shoulder over a fitted anarkali in Red Dahlia or Patriot Blue. Complete either look with jhumkas in antique gold and mojris in natural leather. The Zinnia and Pink Peacock colourways work particularly well against dark fabrics, where the metallic gota catches evening light with extraordinary warmth.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a woven cellulose fibre that drapes beautifully but requires considered handling to stay that way. Hand wash separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and do not wring or twist. Rinse gently and press the water out by rolling the dupatta inside a clean cotton towel. Dry flat in shade to protect the gota appliqué from distortion. Iron on a low setting with a pressing cloth placed over the metallic patches. Store folded in breathable muslin, away from damp and direct sunlight, to preserve both the art silk's lustre and the gota's brightness.

Frequently asked

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
