Cannoli-Cream Extra Wide Pure Pashmina Shawl from Kashmir with Detailed Flowers and Paisley Pattern Sozni Embroidery by Hand
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
Pale as the first light on a winter morning in the Vale, this shawl carries within its fibres a quietude that only Kashmir can produce. Woven from pure Pashmina, the softest underfleece combed from Changthangi goats at high altitude, the ground is an ivory so warm it borders on cream, the colour one might call cannoli in another language entirely. Across this expanse, Sozni embroiderers have worked their needles with extraordinary patience, tracing detailed flowers and paisleys in thread that seems almost reluctant to announce itself, so perfectly does it belong to the cloth. Sozni is among the most demanding of Kashmir's embroidery traditions, a craft built on restraint and precision, where a single shawl may represent months of a craftsperson's attention. The extra-wide format honours an older convention, when a shawl was meant to drape generously and suggest abundance without effort. Wear it folded lengthwise over the shoulders of a silk kurta at an evening gathering, or let it fall open across a simple ivory anarkali, allowing the embroidery to speak without interruption.

Behind this piece
Sozni is among the most demanding needle arts Kashmir has ever produced. Worked entirely by hand on pure Pashmina, each motif is stitched with a fine needle in a technique passed down through generations of craftsmen in the Kashmir Valley. The flowering sprays and paisley forms on this shawl follow a grammar of ornament that once graced Mughal courts and later enchanted European collectors who called it cashmere. The cannoli-cream ground, soft and unassertive, allows the embroidery to speak without competition. This is slow work, measured in months, not days.
How to style
Drape it long over an ivory or blush Anarkali for a winter wedding and let the paisley border fall at the wrist. For a contemporary edit, fold it into a wide wrap over a camel-toned cashmere turtleneck and straight trousers, finishing with gold Kolhapuri mules. At a formal dinner, let it rest at the elbows over a silk sari blouse; a single pair of uncut diamond drops will do more than any layered necklace. The cream ground is a diplomat: it negotiates with every palette without conceding anything of its own character.
Fabric & care
Pure Pashmina, drawn from the undercoat of the Changthangi goat, rewards patience in care. Hand-wash in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral shampoo, supporting the full weight of the wet fabric so it does not stretch. Never wring; press gently between two clean towels and dry flat away from direct sunlight. Steam lightly if needed, keeping the iron at a safe distance from the embroidery threads. Fold along the embroidery rather than across it to avoid crease lines. Store in a breathable muslin bag with a natural cedar block to discourage moth damage.
