Batik Printed Banglori Art Silk Dupatta with Peacock Border and Tassels
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Description
Some dupattas carry the quiet confidence of a craft that has never needed to announce itself. This piece is rendered in Banglori art silk, a fabric prized for its smooth drape and subtle luminosity, and brought to life through the ancient resist-dyeing tradition of batik. The wax-and-dye method, rooted in the textile towns of Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan, allows colour to settle into the cloth with an organic softness that printed fabrics rarely achieve. A peacock border frames the length of the dupatta, the motif drawn from centuries of Indian weaving vocabulary where the bird stands for grace and the monsoon. Knotted tassels finish each end with the kind of considered detail that rewards a second glance. The three available colourways, a forest-edged Greenery, a serene Lake Blue, and a warm Pureed Pumpkin, each carry the batik palette with quiet distinction, suited equally to a festive salwar ensemble or a casual cotton kurta that needs a single, considered accent. Drape it loosely across one shoulder over a straight kurta, or fold it as a scarf against the chill of an air-conditioned evening.

Behind this piece
Batik is one of India's oldest resist-print traditions, its roots travelling through Java before taking firm hold in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and the workshops of Kutch. The craft works by laying molten wax across fabric, dyeing the cloth, then cracking or removing the wax to reveal its signature veining. Here, that ancient waxing discipline meets Banglori art silk, a fabric prized for its mirror-bright drape. The peacock border, recurring motif of Mughal courts and temple friezes alike, frames the field with a quiet grandeur that no machine-printed substitute can replicate.
How to style
Wear the Lake Blue or Greenery colourway loosely over a white chanderi kurta and wide-leg palazzo for an afternoon literary gathering, anchored with silver oxidised jhumkas. For a festive evening, drape Mars Red across one shoulder over a sleeveless raw-silk blouse and cigarette trousers, pairing with gold Kolhapuri heels. The Jurassic Gold variant works beautifully over an ivory anarkali for a sangeet, finished with polki choker and nude mojris. Pureed Pumpkin rewards bolder pairings: try it over a deep teal kurta with dhokra-cast bangles at a winter wedding.
Fabric & care
Art silk carries a luminous finish that rewards gentle handling. Hand-wash separately in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping the soak brief to protect the batik wax-resist dye. Never wring or twist; press excess water out by rolling in a clean cotton towel. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can fade resist-printed colours over time. Iron on the lowest silk setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side. Store rolled loosely in a breathable muslin bag rather than folded, to prevent permanent creasing along the tasselled border.
