Bachelor-Blue Pure Silk Kanjivaram Handloom Saree with Zari woven Floral Bootis and Extra Wide Chevron Border from Bangalore
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Description
There is a blue that belongs neither to midnight nor to noon, and the weavers of Bangalore have caught it here, suspended in silk. Woven on traditional handlooms in the Kanjivaram tradition, this saree carries the full authority of pure mulberry silk, weighted and lustrous in the way only genuine Kanjivaram can be. Across the field, zari-worked floral bootis are placed with quiet precision, each one a small flourish of gold against that deep, stilled bachelor blue. The border commands attention without announcement: a chevron pattern rendered extra wide, the geometric rhythm built thread by thread in contrasting zari, borrowing from the bold architectural sensibility that South Indian silk weaving has always claimed as its own. The pallu extends the chevron's language further, giving the drape a ceremonial completeness that suits a wedding guest, a festive gathering, or any occasion where one wishes to be remembered without having tried too hard. Pair this with uncut ruby or polished temple gold. A simple low bun, a single jasmine string, and nothing more is needed.

Behind this piece
Kanjivaram silk weaving traces its roots to the temple town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, where the Devangas and Saligars have practised this craft for generations. Traditionally woven on pit looms, the fabric draws its weight and sheen from pure mulberry silk threads interlocked at the selvedge, ensuring the border never separates from the body. This saree carries that same structural integrity into a bachelor-blue ground, lifting it with zari-worked floral bootis and an extra-wide chevron border characteristic of the Bangalore atelier tradition, which favours geometry alongside the classical southern grammar of ornament.
How to style
For a daytime wedding function, pair this saree with a raw silk blouse in ivory or champagne and layer antique gold temple jewellery at the neck. For an evening reception, consider a deep-neck blouse in navy brocade and oxidised silver jhumkas to cool the warmth of the zari. At a formal puja or festive gathering, a high-neck, full-sleeved blouse in the same bachelor-blue works beautifully with polki earrings and traditional Kolhapuri heels in tan leather, allowing the chevron border to speak without competition.
Fabric & care
Pure Kanjivaram silk requires dry cleaning for the first three to four washes to protect the zari from tarnishing. If hand-washing becomes necessary, use cool water with a small measure of mild, pH-neutral shampoo, and never wring or twist the fabric. Dry the saree flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which dulls the silk's natural lustre over time. Store it folded in a fresh cotton muslin cloth, reversing the folds every six months to prevent permanent crease lines. Avoid contact with perfume and deodorant, as alcohol weakens silk fibres and corrodes zari threads.
