Description

There are mangalsutras that announce themselves, and those that simply belong. This one belongs to the quieter tradition. Worked in sterling silver, the pendant opens into a curved, lateral form, measuring nearly four centimetres across and under two centimetres in length, its silhouette echoing the gentle arc of a petal in bloom. Zircons, set flush across the face of the pendant, catch light in the way that rain-washed marble does: coolly, without performance. The black bead mala, faithful to the mangalsutra's ancient grammar, threads into an adjustable chain that reaches eighteen inches, keeping the full piece well within the clavicle's register. At seven grams, the sterling silver carries the weight of intention rather than metal. This is not Jadau, not Kundan; it belongs instead to a contemporary silver tradition that respects the sacred form while speaking to a woman who dresses with restraint. Worn over a fine cotton kurta in ivory or grey, it reads as an heirloom quietly passed down. Against a silk sari blouse for a morning puja or a low-key wedding lunch, the zircon's brightness answers the fabric's sheen without competing. The adjustable chain accommodates most necklines and requires no alteration. At free size, it suits a wide range of wearers. The sterling silver finish resists everyday dulling, and the pendant's modest width means it sits flat through a full day's movement without turning.
