the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven silk for over a thousand years, and the brocade tradition it carries is among the most technically demanding in the world. This toffee-brown fabric comes from the looms of the Kasim family, weavers whose craft lives in the interlocking of silk warp and zari weft, thread by thread. The hand-woven flowers emerge not from a print or a stamp but from the very structure of the cloth itself. The warm caramel ground is rare, neither bridal red nor ivory, and it holds the gold zari with an almost autumnal restraint that feels genuinely contemporary.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this into a long anarkali for a winter wedding and pair it with uncut diamond jhumkas and block-heeled mojris in cognac leather. For a less formal register, a tailored blouse in this fabric worn with a silk organza saree in ivory will let the brocade carry the eye without competing. A structured blazer cut from this cloth, worn over a fine cotton kurta for a literary evening or gallery opening, completes the picture. The toffee tone sits especially well against deep skin, and alongside vintage gold or antique brass jewellery it becomes quietly luminous.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure silk brocade with zari requires dry cleaning as the first and safest choice, since water can cause the silk to lose its lustre and may distort the hand-woven motifs. If hand-washing becomes necessary, use cold water and a very small amount of mild, pH-neutral soap, never wringing or twisting the cloth. Lay flat to dry in shade. Store folded in soft muslin rather than plastic, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creasing. Keep camphor or neem leaves nearby to deter insects. Handled with care, this fabric will outlast the garment by generations.

Frequently asked

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
