the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven meenakari florals into silk for centuries, but when the same devotion meets pure chiffon, something quieter and more luminous emerges. The brocade technique here draws from the Kashi weaving tradition, where zari threads are interlocked with the ground weave on a Jacquard loom, building each flower petal pass by pass. The pink-yarrow ground, a colour that sits between blush and fuchsia, is not printed but woven into the cloth itself. Meenakari patterning on chiffon demands particular tension control, because the fabric breathes and shifts; the weaver's calibration is everything.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this dupatta over an ivory or ecru kurta set in chanderi or mul cotton: the pink-yarrow zari will carry the full weight of the occasion without competing. For a wedding reception, pair it with a pale gold tissue lehenga, letting the dupatta serve as the statement piece, anchored with kundan chaandbali earrings. On quieter days, fold it loosely over a straight-cut white kurta with straight-leg trousers and block-heeled kolhapuris. The sheer chiffon ground means it layers without bulk, making it as suited to a summer festivity as to an autumn evening gathering.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure chiffon is a plainly woven silk, fine and unforgiving of rough handling. Hand wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, submerging the dupatta briefly and never wringing or twisting. Rinse once in cool water. To dry, lay it flat on a clean cotton towel away from direct sunlight, which yellows both the zari and the ground. Iron on a very low silk setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric. Store folded in a soft muslin cover, away from moisture and synthetic materials that can abrade the zari over time.
