the story,

Behind this piece

Phulkari, which translates literally as "flower work," is among Punjab's most intimate textile traditions. Practiced historically by women in the villages of the Majha, Doaba, and Malwa regions, it was never a commercial craft but a private one: passed from mothers to daughters, stitched through seasons, gifted at weddings. The geometric burst of satin-stitch embroidery, worked from the reverse on coarse khaddar cloth, transforms thread into light. Here, that same devotional vocabulary of flowers and mirrors crosses into hand-crafted pure leather jootis, carrying a centuries-old Punjab aesthetic into something you can wear every day.

to wear it,

How to style

In beeswax, these jootis pair beautifully with ivory or ecru kurta sets in chanderi or mul cotton, finished with polki or kundan earrings for a bridal mehendi. The green and pink colourway complements a deep Banarasi silk saree in jewel tones, worn to a festive lunch or engagement ceremony. Yellow reads playfully against a white anarkali or indigo block-print suit at a daytime shaadi function. In every pairing, keep the jewellery considered, a single statement piece rather than layers, so the embroidery on the jooti speaks without competition.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure leather requires patient, attentive care. After each wear, wipe the surface gently with a soft, dry cotton cloth to remove dust and moisture. Condition the leather every few months using a colourless, wax-based leather balm to prevent cracking and preserve suppleness. Store in a breathable cloth bag, never sealed plastic, away from direct sunlight which fades embroidery threads over time. Avoid prolonged exposure to water; if the jootis become wet, stuff with newspaper and dry naturally at room temperature. Treated well, pure leather jootis develop a beautiful patina and last for many years.
