Behind this piece
The jooti is one of the oldest surviving footwear traditions of the Indian subcontinent, with its roots running deepest through the artisan quarters of Rajasthan and Punjab. Crafted from pure leather shaped entirely by hand, the classic plain jooti forgoes embellishment in favour of form. The toe curls upward with quiet authority. In Coffee Bean and Beige, these pieces honour the unadorned school of the craft, where the leather itself is the ornament. Made to order, each pair is cut and stitched only after you choose, keeping the tradition of bespoke shoemaking alive.
How to style
In Coffee Bean, these jootis sit beautifully against an ivory kurta-pyjama in mul cotton or a warm-toned linen kurta for a morning wedding function. Pair them with a Nehru-collar bandhgala in camel wool for formal occasions. The Beige pair works effortlessly with off-white or pale grey salwar sets, lending a seamless, tonal elegance. For a contemporary register, try either colour beneath slim-cut trousers and a handloom cotton shirt. No jewellery competes here; let the restraint of a simple silver kada, worn on the wrist, complete the picture without distraction.
Fabric & care
Pure leather rewards patience and consistency. Wipe these jootis gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear to remove surface dust before it settles into the grain. Condition the leather once a month using a natural cream or beeswax polish to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which fades and stiffens the hide over time. Store in a cool, dry place, preferably inside the cotton bag provided, with a cedar block nearby to deter moisture. Never machine wash or soak. With proper care, pure leather jootis deepen in character across years of wear.
