Ivory Banarasi Salwar Kameez Fabric with Woven Bootis and Golden Border
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Description
There is a quietness to ivory that only Banaras knows how to fill. This salwar kameez fabric arrives in a rose violet ivory that carries the characteristic luminosity of Banarasi art silk, a weave tradition rooted in the looms of Varanasi where pattern and light have been in conversation for centuries. Scattered across the ground are woven bootis, those small, self-contained motifs that speak to the buti vocabulary of Mughal-era textile craft, each one catching the sheen of the fabric as the body moves. The golden border frames the length with the composed authority that Banarasi borders are known for, neither overreaching nor understated. Art silk renders these details with a softness and fluidity that makes it well suited to daily occasions as well as festive afternoons. The fabric is offered tailormade to size, allowing the construction to honour the cloth rather than compromise it. Pair it with a dupatta in deep plum or muted gold to let the border breathe. Simple juttis and oxidised silver jewellery would complete the silhouette with quiet confidence.

SaleBehind this piece
Banaras has woven its identity into silk for over five centuries, and the buti, that small repeating motif scattered across the ground cloth, is among its most recognisable signatures. Here, the bootis are worked in the Banarasi tradition of interlocked supplementary weft, each one a contained floral or geometric jewel anchored against ivory art silk. The golden border follows the ancient kinkhab grammar, where metallic threads frame the field like a gilded manuscript edge. This fabric carries the visual vocabulary of Varanasi's weaving quarters, translated into an accessible art silk ground for the contemporary maker.
How to style
Cut this fabric into a straight-cut kurta with a modest placket and pair it with ivory or ecru wide-leg palazzos to let the golden border speak at the hem. For a festive occasion such as a puja or a mehendi, layer a sheer organza dupatta in deep ultramarine over one shoulder. Rose violet mojris or block-heeled sandals in antique gold complete the silhouette. If you choose ming green as your accent, opt for uncut diamond or polki earrings, which echo the woven motifs without competing. This fabric rewards restraint.
Fabric & care
Art silk, a yarn spun from viscose or cuprammonium rayon, behaves more delicately than it appears. Hand wash this fabric in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist it. Rinse once, gently press the water out by rolling the cloth in a clean cotton towel, then hang in shade. Iron on a low to medium setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side only, to preserve the lustre of the woven bootis. Store folded in a muslin cloth, away from direct light, to prevent the ivory ground from yellowing over time.
