Behind this piece
Reversible handloom weaving is among the most demanding disciplines in Indian textile craft, requiring the weaver to hold two complete colour sequences in tension at once. This stole draws on that tradition, its golden and forest-green warp threads interlacing to produce a fabric that reads entirely differently on each face. Wool of this hand-twisted quality has long been associated with the highland looms of Himachal Pradesh and the Kullu valley, where generations of weavers have used geometric pattern-play to navigate the cold. The reversible weave is not a trick; it is a structural philosophy.
How to style
Wear the golden face outward over a cream or ivory kurta for a Diwali gathering, anchored with polki studs and kolhapuri flats. Flip to the green side for a winter wedding as an alternative to a dupatta, draped across an embroidered anarkali in bottle green or rust. For a quieter occasion, layer it over a fitted merino turtleneck and dark churidar, letting the two-tone edge serve as the sole ornament. The stole's weight gives it enough body to hold a loose shoulder drape without constant readjusting.
Fabric & care
Wool breathes but it also felts if handled carelessly. Hand-wash in cool water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or twisting the fabric. Rinse by gently pressing the water through. Roll the stole inside a dry towel to absorb excess moisture, then lay it flat to dry away from direct sunlight, which will fade both the gold and green tones over time. Store folded, not hung, to prevent the fibres from stretching. A cedar block in your linen cupboard discourages moths without the chemical residue that damages fine wool.
