Description

There is a particular weight to tradition when it rests, six bangles deep, upon the wrist. Rooted in the bridal jewellery vocabulary of Rajasthan, these kada bangles are worked in brass and finished to evoke the warmth of aged gold. Each bangle in the set of six carries stone studding across the outer face, the coloured cabochons set into pronged or bezel-style mounts that catch light the way older Kundan-influenced pieces do, without the heirloom price. The silhouette is broad and architectural, as a traditional kada should be, with a flat-edged profile and a surface that balances ornament against negative space. The full set weighs seventy-six grams, substantial enough to carry the ceremonial gravitas the form demands, and is offered in four standard bangle sizes: 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 and 2.10, following conventional Indian sizing. Stack the complete set of six on one arm over a red silk Banarasi for a wedding ceremony, letting the stones answer the zari. For a mehendi or haldi, pair three bangles alone with a mustard mirror-work lehenga and let the brass speak against the colour. Because these are brass with a fixed circumference and no hinge, sizing carefully is essential. Measure your hand at its widest point before selecting from the four available sizes. The metal is durable for festive wear, and the stone settings are reinforced for repeated dressing. A soft cloth is all the care they require between occasions.
