Description

There is a quiet opulence to uncut stones that no faceted gem can quite replicate. These openable bangles are worked in gold-toned brass, their surface carrying the unhurried character of pieces descended from the Polki tradition, where raw, uncut diamonds were once set directly into gold foil to catch candlelight from within. Here, uncut Polki stones sit in close, flat-set formations against the warm brass ground, their natural, irregular surfaces scattering light in that distinctly soft, heirloom manner. The openable hinge closure is a considered choice, borrowing from the kara and cuff traditions that allowed heavier, more elaborate pieces to be worn and removed without ceremony. At ninety grams for the pair, the weight is present but not burdensome, and the gold-tone finish gives the brass a warmth that sits naturally alongside both antique and contemporary jewellery. Wear these bangles with a tissue-silk saree for an evening occasion where the uncut stones can do their quiet work against candlelight. For a daytime look, they pair equally well with a raw-silk kurta in ivory or deep ochre, lending weight and intention to an otherwise understated ensemble. Available in sizes 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6, the openable construction means each bangle fits a wider range of wrists than a standard slip-on piece. The hinge mechanism is sturdy, the closure flush when fastened, making these practical for longer wear without adjustment or concern.
