Description
There is a particular weight to copper when it has been worked with intention. These bangles belong to the Rajwadi tradition, that broad, princely vocabulary of Rajasthan where every surface is considered and nothing is left plain. The base is copper, warm-toned and substantial, shaped into a broad cuff form with a screw-fitted opening that allows the bangle to be fastened and removed with care rather than forced over the wrist. Across the face, stones are set in close formation, their arrangement echoing the dense, all-over studded aesthetic one associates with Bikaner and Jaipur ateliers, where karigars press colour into metal until the two become inseparable. The finish sits somewhere between burnished and bright, the copper lending an antique warmth beneath the stone settings that no gold-plated substitute quite replicates. Each bangle weighs a considered 142 grams for the pair, with an outer diameter of approximately 9.4 cm and a profile height of roughly 1.3 cm. Wear these with a silk chanderi or tissue-weave kurta at a winter wedding, or layer them against the bare wrist above a raw-silk blouse at a festival gathering. They carry both register with equal ease. Three inner diameters are available, 5.1 cm, 5.5 cm and 5.7 cm, accommodating a generous range of wrists. The screw closure means no compromise between security and comfort. Copper wears to a deeper patina over time, which only adds character to pieces built in this tradition.
