Description

There are bangles that open like a story, and this is one of them. The Rajwadi lacquer bangle belongs to a tradition of adornment that once coloured the wrists of Rajasthan's nobility, and its craft still lives most vividly in the workshops of Jaipur and Bikaner. Here, a core of shaped brass is packed and sealed with lacquer, that ancient resinous medium which holds pigment with a depth no enamel quite matches. The result is a bangle of satisfying weight, at one hundred and forty grams, that sits on the wrist with quiet authority. The openable hinge closure is the detail that lifts it from decorative to genuinely wearable: no forcing, no scraping, simply a considered mechanism that allows the bangle to open and close cleanly around the wrist. The form reads as Rajwadi in silhouette, broad and architectural, with the lacquer surface carrying the warmth of the palette pictured. Wear it alone with a chanderi kurta and kolhapuri sandals for an evening that asks for one considered gesture rather than many. At a mehendi or a daytime wedding function, it pairs equally well stacked with a set of slender gold-toned bangles on the opposite wrist. Available in bangle sizes two-four, two-six and two-eight, the piece accommodates a range of wrist circumferences. The brass base lends structural durability, while the lacquer surface benefits from being kept away from prolonged water exposure, ensuring it remains vivid across many seasons of wear.
