Description

There are courts that never quite closed, and this bangle carries their memory on its surface. Set in the Rajwadi tradition that once flourished in the ateliers of Jaipur and Bikaner, this openable Kundan bangle arrives as a pair, each piece worked in brass and dressed with flat-foiled Kundan stones set flush into the bezel in the manner of the old goldsmith's art. The silhouette is broad and architectural, the surface divided into repeating floral and geometric cartouches characteristic of Rajasthani court jewellery. Kundan work demands patience: each stone is pressed into a bed of lac, then bordered with fine gold-toned foil and pure metal wire, building a mosaic that catches light without aggression. The openable hinge closure is both practical and considered, allowing the bangle to lie flat against the wrist without forcing. Worn together as a pair, these bangles sit beautifully against a silk tissue dupatta at a wedding reception or an evening mehendi. Equally, a single bangle layered over fine cotton block-print kurta sleeves at a festive family lunch makes a quiet, confident statement. Each bangle is sized at 2.4 inches and the combined weight of the pair is 96 grams, a presence that is felt without being heavy-handed. The brass base gives the piece durability and warmth of tone. The hinge mechanism is sturdy and the closure sits discreetly into the overall design, making this piece as wearable as it is considered.
