Description
The elephant has always been a royal procession unto itself. Rendered in warm-toned brass and shaped into a broad cuff that opens at a discreet hinge, this pair of bangles draws directly from the Rajasthani court aesthetic, where the elephant motif carried the full weight of auspicious power and regal abundance. The silhouette is generous without being heavy: at three-quarters of an inch (approximately 1.9 cm) in height and just over two and three-quarter inches (approximately 7 cm) across the outer diameter, each bangle has the confident presence of a piece rooted in Rajwadi tradition. Brass, the artisan's metal of choice across Jaipur's older workshops, takes to engraving and relief work with a receptiveness that silver and gold rarely match at this scale. The elephant forms appear in raised relief, carrying the characteristic grandeur of procession regalia, the motif repeating with a rhythmic formality that speaks of pattern-making passed down through generations of metal workers. Worn together on one wrist over a cream silk kurta, these bangles anchor a festive look without competing with embroidery. They suit equally well on the wrist of someone in a block-printed cotton dress reaching for something grounded and considered. The openable hinge removes the struggle of forcing a rigid bangle over the hand, making daily wear genuinely practical. Available in two diameters, 2.15 inch and 2.25 inch, and weighing a substantial 88 grammes for the pair, the brass develops a gentle patina with wear that only deepens its character.
