Description

There are brides who wear jewellery, and then there are brides who wear architecture. This openable kada belongs to the second kind. Broad and commanding at one and a half inches in height (approximately 3.8 cm), it is built on a brass foundation that lends it both weight and warmth, the whole piece settling at a substantial 104 grams on the wrist. Across its surface, uncut Polki stones are set in the manner long favoured by Rajasthani ateliers: each facet left raw and irregular, catching light the way a still lake catches the afternoon sun, without drama, without apology. The openable clasp is the quietly clever engineering of the bridal kada tradition, allowing a piece of this scale to be worn and removed without ceremony. The inner diameter of 2.1 inches (approximately 5.3 cm) accommodates most standard wrists with a confident, settled fit. For the mehendi or the sangeet, wear it stacked against slimmer gold-tone bangles on one wrist, paired with a raw-silk lehenga in ivory or deep rose. For a festive family occasion after the wedding, let it stand alone against a Banarasi saree in midnight blue or bottle green, where its uncut stones do all the speaking. The openable hinge is smooth and secure, designed for daily ease once the celebrations begin. Brass as a base metal develops a gentle patina over time; a soft cloth is all the care this piece asks.
