Description

There is something unhurried about a bangle that opens: it does not demand, it invites. These Polki-studded bangles are wrought in brass, a metal long favoured by Rajasthani craftsmen for its warm, gold-like lustre and its willingness to hold intricate setting work. Each bangle is studded with uncut Polki stones, set flush in the manner of the old ateliers of Jaipur, where the mineral is valued precisely because it has not been polished into submission. The stones retain their natural facets, catching light without announcing themselves. The openable hinge closure, a detail more engineering than ornament, allows the bangle to sit close without forcing the wrist. At sixty grams the pair carries a pleasing heft, and the two available sizes, 2.2 and 2.6, accommodate a range of wrist measurements. Worn alone, a single bangle reads as a considered, minimal statement against the cuff of a silk kurta. Stacked in threes on a bare wrist, they hold their own against the embroidery of a Banarasi saree blouse at a daytime celebration or a winter wedding festivity. The hinge mechanism is smooth enough for daily use, and the openable form means no pulling or stretching at the wrist. The brass base is finished to a warm, burnished tone that sits comfortably against all skin depths. Both sizes, 2.2 and 2.6, run true to standard Indian bangle sizing.
