Description
The nine planets, set in silver and light, orbit the wrist in perpetual, auspicious motion. This bangle draws on one of India's oldest devotional jewellery traditions: the Navagraha, the nine celestial bodies honoured across Hindu, Jain and Buddhist cosmology, each represented here by a polki-set stone that corresponds to its planetary patron. The technique is true uncut polki work, each flat-faceted diamond fragment placed to catch light from above rather than below, giving the surface a softly luminous, antique quality distinct from the hard brilliance of modern cuts. The setting is wrought in sterling silver, a metal long favoured in devotional and tribal jewellery traditions across Rajasthan and Bengal, where silversmiths understood that unplated sterling carries a particular warmth and weight against the skin. At sixty-one grams, the bangle has genuine heft: a presence the wearer will feel. Pair it with a cream silk sari for a puja or festive gathering, where its devotional motif reads as intentional reverence. Equally, wear it against the cuff of a dark cotton kurta for a cultural evening, where the uncut stones and oxidised silver find their own quiet authority. The screw-openable closure allows the bangle to slip on and fasten securely without force, accommodating a range of wrists with an inner diameter of two inches (approximately five centimetres) and an outer diameter of two-point-seven inches (approximately six-point-nine centimetres). The height of zero-point-eight-five inches (approximately two-point-two centimetres) gives the piece a broad, cuff-like presence without tipping into excess.
