Description

The peacock does not merely decorate this bangle; it inhabits it. Rooted in the lacquer craft traditions of Rajasthan, where artisans in Jaipur and Bikaner have long pressed vivid pigment into brass frameworks to conjure heirloom weight from humble materials, this openable bangle carries the peacock motif in raised brass relief against a lacquer ground. The bird, that eternal emblem of the monsoon and of feminine adornment in Indian jewellery, is rendered with the kind of considered detail that only hand-finished brasswork allows. The lacquer fill lends the piece its saturated colour and its characteristic warmth to the touch, quite unlike the cold brightness of precious metal. The hinged, openable silhouette is the design's quiet intelligence: no forcing, no stretching, simply a clean clasp that preserves the bangle's shape across years of wear. At one hundred and fifty grams, it sits with authority on the wrist. Wear it with a cotton mul kurta in ivory for a Sunday afternoon, where its colour does all the talking. For festive evenings, pair it with a silk chanderi in deep teal or ochre and let it anchor an otherwise spare wrist. This piece is offered in three standard bangle sizes, 2/4, 2/6 and 2/8, to suit a range of wrists. The hinged opening means sizing is forgiving and the clasp fastens flush, so the bangle lies flat beneath a sleeve without catching or pinching. Lacquer, properly kept from prolonged moisture, endures beautifully.
