Description
There are bangles you slip on. Then there are bangles you open, like a small ceremony. This pair belongs to the second kind. Fashioned in copper and finished to evoke the warmth of gold, each bangle carries the distinctive openable hinge closure that makes it as practical as it is considered. The outer face is set in Kundan style, where flat-foiled stones are pressed into raised bezels, their edges secured by the same patient hand pressure that Jaipur's karigar tradition has passed down for generations. Between and around the stones, Meenakari enamel work breathes colour into the metal, its characteristic floral and foliate vocabulary painted onto the copper ground before firing. Freshwater pearls punctuate the design, their soft lustre softening what might otherwise read as all brilliance and colour. The pair together weighs approximately 108 grams, a presence you notice on the wrist. Wear both bangles stacked on one wrist over a silk kurta in an undyed ivory or deep teal, and the Meenakari colours anchor the whole palette. For a wedding guest look, pair them with a Banarasi tissue sari and leave the other wrist bare. Available in three sizes, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8, the openable hinge removes any struggle with the clasp and suits wrists that find rigid bangles difficult to wear. The copper base, though not a precious metal, makes the set accessible in weight on the wrist and honest in its material story.
