Description

There are bangles you clasp shut, and then there are bangles you open like a small ceremony. This set of two openable bangles is worked in copper, a metal long favoured by artisans in Rajasthan for its warmth and its willingness to hold colour. The technique here is a marriage of two great traditions: Kundan setting, in which stones are pressed into fine foil-backed bezels and secured without prongs, and Meenakari, the art of painting fired enamel into engraved recesses. Together they produce the layered luminosity the craft is famous for. The motifs, as is typical of this idiom, read as stylised florals, the enamel work sitting in jewel-bright contrast against the copper ground. The openable hinged closure makes this possible to wear without threading it past your hand, preserving every detail of the setting. The pair weighs 97 grams in total, and this listing is offered in size 2.6. Wear both bangles stacked on one wrist with a cotton silk kurta in ivory or blush for a festive lunch; or let them anchor an otherwise understated hand at a mehendi or sangeet, where the enamel colours will catch the light exactly as they were meant to. The hinged closure means a secure, flush fit at size 2.6, and the copper base ensures the bangles hold their shape over time. The openable mechanism also makes daily wear practical, without the effort of forcing a rigid bangle over the wrist each morning.
