Description
Geometry, it turns out, has always been the grammar of Indian ornament. Kundan is among the oldest stone-setting traditions on the subcontract, refined across centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur and Bikaner, where karigars learned to press foil-backed stones into a lac core with patience that borders on the devotional. These bangles carry that lineage into a distinctly architectural silhouette: flat, wide cuffs in brass, their outer face arranged in a repeating geometric pattern of kundan-set stones that catch light at every plane. The stones sit flush, held firm by fine gold-toned metal rims, the overall surface neither busy nor spare. At roughly ninety-seven grams the pair, they carry genuine presence on the wrist without feeling punishing. The openable hinge closure, so characteristic of Rajasthani kade, means the bangle slips on and off without ceremony, protecting both the piece and the wearer. Wear them with a silk kurta and palazzo trousers for a festive lunch where you want intention without excess. They translate equally well over the full sleeve of a winter sherwani-collared tunic, letting the geometric facets do quiet, considered work against plain fabric. The inner diameter of two-point-two inches (approximately five-point-six centimetres) and an outer diameter of two-point-seven-five inches (approximately six-point-nine-nine centimetres), with a height of one inch (two-point-five-four centimetres), suits a standard to slightly slender wrist. The hinge closure makes daily wearing entirely practical.
