Description

There are silhouettes that do not merely adorn the wrist; they carry a whole civilisation on their circumference. The pacheli is among Rajasthan's oldest bangle forms, a wide, flat-faced cuff whose breadth was always meant to speak before its wearer did. These bangles, sold as a matched pair, are worked in copper, a metal beloved in folk and tribal jewellery traditions for its warmth, its conductivity of both heat and meaning. Across the broad face, elephants march in procession, their bodies outlined and filled with stone studding, a technique that echoes the inlaid work found in Bikaner and Jaipur bazaars where copper pieces are set with coloured stones in close, almost mosaic-like formations. The result is dense with presence: animal, mineral and memory folded into a single 3.65 centimetre (approximately 9.3 cm) outer diameter cuff, each bangle standing just 0.4 inches (roughly 1 cm) tall and carrying a paired weight of 155 grams, generous and grounding on the wrist. Wear them stacked on both arms over a raw-silk kurta in ivory or mustard for a winter wedding lunch. They sit equally well against a handloom cotton sari on an afternoon when formality is desired but not demanded. Available in inner diameters of 2 inches, 2.15 inches and 2.25 inches (approximately 5 cm, 5.5 cm and 5.7 cm), the copper develops a gentle patina with wear. The flat, open profile slips on cleanly, making these as practical for daily ceremony as for celebration.
