Description

The peacock does not merely decorate this kada; it inhabits it. Cast and hand-carved in warm brass, each bangle in this pair traces the peacock in its fullest expression: tail feathers fanning into repeat medallions, the neck arched with quiet authority, the whole motif wrapped around a broad cuff silhouette that speaks to the silversmith and brass-casting traditions of Rajasthan's artisan quarters. Brass, long favoured by craftsmen in Jaipur and Bikaner for its receptivity to deep carving and its ability to hold a burnished, antique-toned finish, gives the piece a weight that reads as intentional rather than decorative. The openable hinge at the side of each bangle allows the cuff to swing apart cleanly, accommodating the wrist without force. The pair together weighs approximately 134 grams, a presence that settles on the arm with satisfying gravity. Worn together, these karas sit beautifully against an ivory handloom cotton kurta for a museum opening or a festive afternoon gathering. They are equally at home stacked over the sleeve of a dark silk anarkali at a mehendi or sangeet, where the burnished brass catches the warmth of evening light without competing with more elaborate pieces. Available in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8, the openable closure removes the guesswork of fitting over a wider knuckle. Brass requires only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its lustre, making this pair as practical as it is considered.
