Description

There are brides who wear flowers, and then there are brides who wear the idea of flowers, captured in brass and suspended in motion. This kaan chain pair belongs to the second kind. Each piece is composed of layered floral motifs, stacked in descending tiers that travel the full length of the ear, from lobe to jaw, cascading across three distinct registers of ornament. The tradition of the ear chain, or kaan chain, is rooted in the jewellery vocabulary of Rajasthan and parts of Bengal, where brides have long favoured pieces that animate with movement rather than sitting static against the skin. Worked in warm-toned brass, the floral elements carry a weight of twenty-six grams across the pair, substantial enough to drape with conviction. The layered silhouette measures six and a half inches (approximately sixteen and a half centimetres) in height, framing the face with the unhurried drama of a garland mid-fall. For the mehendi or sangeet, pair this with a tissue silk kurta in amber or ivory, letting the chain read against an open neckline. On the wedding day itself, it sits equally well beneath a heavy dupatta, the brass warmth echoing the gold of embroidered borders. Free-sized in its construction, the chain attaches securely to the ear with a conventional hook-and-loop arrangement that holds through hours of celebration. Brass renders the piece accessible and lightweight in spirit, and its warm finish ages gracefully with wear.
