the story,

Behind this piece

The Vishwavajra, or double thunderbolt, is among Tibetan Buddhism's most potent symbols, signifying indestructible clarity and the union of cosmic forces. Here, it is rendered in brocade, a technique with deep roots in Varanasi's Tanchoi and Kimkhab traditions, where Kashi's master weavers have long absorbed Central Asian and Tibetan iconography through centuries of Silk Route commerce. Pure silk threads catch light with every shift of angle, lending the motifs an almost ceremonial luminosity. The result is neither purely Tibetan nor wholly Banarasi; it occupies that rare, charged space where two great weaving cultures meet.

to wear it,

How to style

Stitch this patch along the hem of an ivory or ivory-grey silk kurta for a formal occasion that rewards a second glance. Alternatively, apply it as a centrepiece panel on a plain chanderi dupatta, transforming an everyday accessory into an heirloom accent. For festive dressing, place it at the neckline of a raw silk jacket worn over a straight-cut anarkali. In each case, keep jewellery minimal and architectural: silver with a high polish, or oxidised pieces referencing Buddhist or Mughal geometry. Kolhapuri-style sandals in tan leather complete the look without competing.

to last,

Fabric & care

Silk is a protein fibre and demands considered handling. Dry-clean this patch wherever possible, particularly after it has been applied to a garment. If hand-washing is unavoidable, use cold water with a drop of pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Press only on the reverse side with a cool iron and a thin cotton cloth placed between iron and silk. Store flat or loosely rolled in breathable muslin, away from direct sunlight, which degrades silk's natural lustre over time. Camphor or cedar blocks will deter insects without the chemical harshness that damages fine fibres.
