the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven sacred geometry into silk for over five centuries, and this satin carries that lineage forward. The Ashtamangala, or Eight Symbols of Good Fortune, arrives here from Tibetan Buddhist iconography, a visual language shared across the Himalayas and now translated into the luminous vocabulary of Banarasi satin. The Kasim family, rooted in the weaving lanes of Varanasi, works the loom with inherited precision, rendering the parasol, the endless knot, the lotus and five companion symbols in a ground of Mars Red and Regatta Blue. Devotion, in this case, is also technique.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this satin into a full-sleeved blouse to anchor an ivory or ivory-gold Banarasi saree, letting the Ashtamangala motifs frame the back and neckline for a festive occasion. Alternatively, commission a straight-cut kurta in Regatta Blue for a Losar or Diwali gathering, paired with oxidised silver jewellery and kolhapuri flats. For a contemporary statement, a structured jacket in Mars Red over wide-leg palazzo trousers works beautifully at an art opening or cultural soiree. Keep accessories architectural and spare so the woven symbols remain the centrepiece.

to last,

Fabric & care

Satin's smooth, light-reflecting surface demands gentle handling. Hand wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and press between two clean cotton towels to remove excess water. Dry flat, away from direct sunlight, which fades both Mars Red and Regatta Blue over time. Iron on a low setting with a pressing cloth placed between the iron and the satin face. Store folded loosely in a muslin cloth, never in plastic, to allow the fibre to breathe and retain its lustre across years of careful use.
