Plain Tusha Stole from Kashmir
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
Some textiles do not announce themselves; they simply arrive, quiet and certain, like the first snowfall over the Dal Lake. Tusha wool is among the most refined expressions of Kashmir's pastoral heritage, drawn from the underbelly of the Changthangi goat and known for a fineness that borders on the improbable. Woven on handlooms by artisans in the Kashmir Valley, this plain-weave stole forgoes embellishment entirely, trusting the cloth itself to carry all the beauty required. The unadorned surface allows the natural lustre and extraordinary softness of the fibre to speak without interruption, a rare restraint in a tradition celebrated for its intricate needlework. Available in considered colourways, from the quiet warmth of Ecru Olive and Ivory to the depth of Mazarine Blue and the conviction of Lipstick Red, each shade sits with the kind of dignity that only natural wool can hold. Drape it loosely over a silk kurta for an evening that calls for understated grace, or fold it into a shoulder wrap against the chill of an air-conditioned afternoon. It travels well, creases forgivingly, and improves quietly with every wearing.

Behind this piece
Tusha wool comes from the underbelly of the Changthangi goat, reared by the Changpa nomads on the high-altitude plateaus of Ladakh. It is among the finest animal fibres in the world, finer even than pashmina, and its journey from plateau to loom passes through the hands of Kashmiri weavers who have shaped this tradition for centuries. This plain stole forgoes embroidery entirely, letting the fibre speak without interruption. The result is a cloth of exceptional softness and warmth, quieter than ornament, more honest than decoration.
How to style
Drape the Ivory or Ecru Olive over a silk kurta set for a winter wedding reception where restraint reads as authority. For daily city wear, knot the Mazarine Blue loosely over a dark wool blazer and let it fall open at the front. On cooler evenings, wrap the Maroon or Bayberry around the shoulders over a cotton anarkali, secured with a single antique silver brooch at the collarbone. All three occasions benefit from juttis in complementary tones, keeping the eye drawn upward to the exceptional quality of the wool.
Fabric & care
Hand-wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral shampoo or specialist wool wash. Never wring or twist the stole; press it gently between two dry towels to remove excess moisture. Lay flat on a clean surface away from direct sunlight to dry, preserving both shape and colour. Store folded, not hung, wrapped in muslin or acid-free tissue inside a breathable cotton bag. Place dried neem leaves or cedar chips nearby to deter moths. With consistent care, tusha wool retains its softness and structural integrity across many years of use.
