Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Behind this piece
Cutwork embroidery, known in its most refined form across the ateliers of Lucknow and the craft corridors of Bhopal, has long served as a language of ornamentation for ceremonial textiles. This patch carries that lineage forward: floral motifs are carefully cut and outlined, then filled with metallic thread work that catches light with the quiet drama of zardozi's humbler cousin. Art silk, chosen here for its luminous drape and affordability, holds the metalwork cleanly. The tricolour range of lilac, scarlet red, and violet speaks to the palette of north Indian bridal and festive dressing.
How to style
Stitch the lilac patch along the hem of an ivory anarkali for a spring wedding guest look, and pair with polki jhumkas and kolhapuri flats. The scarlet red variant belongs at the border of a cream silk dupatta draped over a sharara, worn to a sangeet. For the violet patch, consider placing it at the neckline of a plain georgette kurta styled with oxidised silver bangles and pointed mojris, making an understated statement at a festive family gathering or a curated cultural evening. Each placement rewards deliberate thought.
Fabric & care
Art silk, though lustrous, is more delicate than pure silk and responds poorly to heat and aggressive handling. Hand wash this patch separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, never wringing or scrubbing the metallic thread work. Rinse gently and press flat on a dry towel to remove moisture. Iron only on the reverse, using a low setting and a thin cotton cloth as buffer. Store flat or loosely rolled in a muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the saturation of violet and lilac dyes over time.
