Description

There are brides who wear jewellery, and there are brides who wear an entire court. This Rajwadi parure is a study in Jaipur's most theatrical register: uncut Polki stones set in a brass base, each facet left raw so that candlelight and sunlight both find something to catch. The setting follows the Kundan tradition of pressing stones into a lac-lined cavity, though here the brass lends a warmer, more earthy undertone than silver or gold-filled work. Strands of deep green beads cascade as drops from the necklace and earrings, a colour pairing that Rajasthani karigars have trusted for centuries to offset the milky luminosity of Polki. The full parure spans six components: a choker necklace with an adjustable dori, a long necklace running twenty-three inches, a pendant measuring five centimetres by nearly four, drop earrings at seven and a half centimetres tall, a mang tika, a matha patti running thirty-two centimetres across the brow, a nath of four-centimetre diameter on an eight-inch chain, and an adjustable hathphool. Together they weigh five hundred and ninety-five grams, a presence that is felt. Pair the complete set with a crimson silk lehenga for a winter wedding ceremony, where the green bead drops become their own bridal colour story. Worn selectively, the necklace and mang tika alone elevate a heritage-silk saree at a sangeet or reception. The adjustable dori and free-size hathphool accommodate most builds without alteration. Brass requires occasional dry storage away from moisture to preserve its patina and the integrity of the lac setting.
