Description
Jaipur keeps its most luminous secrets in the marriage of uncut stone and living colour. This necklace and earrings set draws from the long Rajasthani tradition of Polki-Meenakari, where foil-backed uncut diamonds are, in this rendering, translated into Polki-style glass stones set in brass worked to resemble aged gold. The necklace is built on an ornate layered frame, its surface interrupted by panels of deep green Meenakari enamel, a craft in which powdered glass is fired into engraved metal to produce colour that neither fades nor chips with ordinary wear. The earrings, measuring approximately 3.5 cm in height and 2.5 cm in width, mirror the necklace's palette, carrying the same green enamel geometry and Polki clusters. The necklace sits at 30.5 cm and closes with an adjustable dori, the traditional cotton-cord finish that keeps the weight, here a substantial 56 grams for the full set, distributed comfortably at the nape. Wear the necklace over a deep-necked silk kurta in ivory or burgundy for a festive lunch, letting the green enamel read against cloth. For a reception, layer it above a raw-silk blouse with a tissue saree in gold or rust, and let the earrings stand without competition. The adjustable dori accommodates most necklines and requires no clasp mechanism. Brass construction keeps the set lighter than silver at equivalent volume. Wipe gently with a dry cloth after wear to preserve the enamel's surface brightness.
