the story,

Behind this piece

The white dhoti and angavastram set belongs to one of the oldest unbroken traditions in Indian textile history. Woven in pure cotton, the thread-woven border follows a technique practised across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where handloom communities have long measured devotion in the precision of a single running border. Star-white, the colour of ritual and beginning, is no accident here. It is the preferred cloth of temple ceremony, of threshold occasions, of men who understand that restraint is itself a form of eloquence. The weave carries that understanding quietly, without argument.

to wear it,

How to style

For a temple visit or a Satyanarayana puja, drape the dhoti in the traditional Pancha-kacham style and rest the angavastram loosely over one shoulder; pair with a plain white or ivory cotton shirt. At a South Indian wedding reception, wear it with a fine silk kurta in deep gold or peacock green and add rudraksha or gold chain detailing. For everyday morning ritual or a cultural programme, keep the kurta in cotton khadi, choose Kolhapuri chappals in tan leather, and let the clean white border do precisely what it was designed to do.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure cotton of this fineness rewards gentle handling. Hand-wash separately in cold water with a mild, ph-neutral detergent; machine-washing risks distorting the woven border. Do not wring. Spread flat or hang straight in shade, as direct sunlight will yellow the star-white over time. Iron on medium heat while slightly damp to restore the crisp hand-feel. Store folded along the original press lines in a cool, dry drawer; a neem leaf or cedar block will discourage insects without the chemical residue that damages natural fibres. Treated this way, the cloth deepens in character with each wearing.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
