Pure Pashmina Sozni Embroidery Natural Color Palledar Shawl from Kashmir
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
There are shawls that are worn, and there are shawls that are read, slowly, like a letter written in a language older than commerce. This palledar shawl is woven from the finest Pashmina, combed from the underbelly of Changthangi goats that graze the high-altitude pastures of Ladakh, and its natural, undyed fleece carries the quiet warmth of that provenance. The sozni embroidery, worked by needle artists in the Kashmir Valley across months of patient, sustained effort, traces paisleys and flowering vines in the palledar tradition: a vocabulary of ornament refined over four centuries of Kashmiri craft. Each stitch is pulled from the underside of the fabric, leaving the surface unmarked except by intention. The result is a textile that holds light softly and drapes with the particular gravity that only genuine Pashmina can offer. This is a piece suited to occasions where restraint is itself a form of ceremony. Wear it over ivory or ivory-adjacent silks at a winter wedding, letting the natural ground speak without competition. Folded lengthwise over the shoulders, it carries equally well into a quiet evening gathering.

Behind this piece
Sozni is Kashmir's most meditative needlework tradition, practised by embroiderers known as zariwallas and soznikars who inherit the craft through generations of careful apprenticeship. Here, the needle follows no printed guide, only memory, patience, and a trained eye. The palledar pattern, named for its richly decorated borders and corner panels, traces its lineage to the great shawl ateliers of the Mughal court. Worked onto Pashmina sourced from the Changra goats of Ladakh, this shawl arrives in undyed, natural tones, honouring the fibre exactly as the high-altitude landscape produced it.
How to style
Drape it loosely over a cream or ivory Chanderi kurta for a winter wedding guest look, anchoring the ensemble with Kundan drop earrings and Kolhapuri flats in tan leather. At the office, fold it into a wide stole over a charcoal wool blazer and straight trousers. For diaspora occasions, layer it across one shoulder over a silk blouse and fitted palazzo, letting the palledar border fall at the front. The natural undyed palette is a generous companion to ivory, camel, deep green, and dusty rose in equal measure.
Fabric & care
Hand-wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral shampoo or dedicated wool wash; never wring or rub the fibre. Gently press water out between two clean towels and reshape by hand while damp. Dry flat, away from direct sunlight, which will yellow undyed Pashmina over time. Store folded, never hung, wrapped in a cotton muslin cloth inside a sealed box with a cedar block to deter moths. Avoid contact with rough surfaces and jewellery clasps. Treated with consistent care, pure Pashmina deepens in softness across decades of wear.
