Pure Pashmina Sozni All over Embroidery Natural Color Palledar Shawl from Kashmir
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
There are things that take years to make and a lifetime to understand. This shawl is woven from pure Pashmina, the fine undercoat fibre combed from Changthangi goats on the high Changthang plateau of Ladakh, where altitude and cold conspire to produce one of the rarest natural textiles on earth. Across its ivory field, Kashmiri artisans have worked Sozni embroidery by hand, a needle tradition so demanding that a single skilled craftsman may spend months completing one piece. The all-over embroidery unfolds in the palledar manner, meaning the ornamentation extends across the body of the shawl in repeating, densely composed motifs that echo centuries of Mughal and Persian influence absorbed into the Kashmiri imagination. The natural, undyed colour of the Pashmina is preserved throughout, allowing the fibre's inherent warmth and luminosity to speak without interruption. Drape it over a fine silk or chikankari kurta for a formal occasion, and let the ivory tones draw attention to the embroidery's quiet discipline. It is equally composed folded over the shoulders at a winter gathering, where its weight and texture will be felt as much as seen.

Behind this piece
Sozni needlework is among the most disciplined of Kashmir's embroidery traditions, practised by craftsmen who train for years before their hands earn the right to work on Pashmina. This shawl carries the palledar format, a classical arrangement in which ornate borders and end-pieces frame a field of all-over embroidery, echoing the vocabulary of Mughal garden design. The natural, undyed ground is itself a statement: raw Pashmina in its honest colour, warm as winter light over the Jhelum. Nothing here is hurried. Each stitch is placed by hand, following a pattern drawn by a separate master craftsman called a naqshband.
How to style
Drape it over an ivory or blush Banarasi silk saree for a winter wedding and let the natural ground speak quietly against the weave. For a festive gathering, fold it as a wrap over a deep burgundy anarkali and anchor the look with antique gold jhumkas. On cooler evenings abroad, layer it over tailored cream trousers and a fine silk kurta, with tan leather mojris completing the register. The palledar borders deserve to be seen: wear it open, unhurried, as the garment itself was made.
Fabric & care
Pashmina is a protein fibre and responds poorly to agitation or heat. Hand-wash in cool water with a small amount of mild, pH-neutral shampoo, never wringing or twisting the cloth. Press the water out gently, then roll the shawl in a clean cotton towel to absorb moisture. Dry flat, away from direct sunlight, which fades natural colour over time. Store folded, never hung, in a breathable muslin bag with a cedar block to discourage moths. Treated with this attention, the shawl will soften and deepen across decades of wear.
