the story,

Behind this piece

Aari embroidery takes its name from the aari, a hooked needle that draws thread up through fabric in a continuous chain, producing lines of colour so fluid they seem almost painted. The craft is rooted in Kashmir and later flourished across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, where artisans adapted it to leather and textile accessories. On these jootis, the needle traces dense floral arcs across pure leather, while ghungaroos, the small brass bells long associated with classical dance and bridal procession, ring softly at the vamp. Every pair is made to order, meaning the embroidery is worked fresh for you.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive afternoon, wear these jootis with a chanderi silk kurta in ivory and wide-legged palazzo trousers in a toning blush; let the multicolour embroidery carry all the pattern. At a mehendi or sangeet, pair them beneath a leheriya skirt and a contrast choli, finishing with silver jhumkas that echo the ghungaroos. For a wedding guest look, they sit beautifully under a tissue silk saree draped in the Gujarati seedha pallu style, particularly when the saree border repeats one of the embroidery's accent colours. Avoid ankle-strap sandals as a concurrent choice; these jootis are the complete statement.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure leather requires measured attention. Wipe the surface after each wear with a dry, lint-free cloth to lift dust from the embroidery threads before it settles. Store in the cotton dust bag provided, never in plastic, and keep each jooti stuffed lightly with tissue to hold its shape. Keep away from direct sunlight and sustained humidity, both of which can fade Aari threadwork and dry out the leather sole. Apply a small amount of colourless leather conditioner to the unembroidered areas every few months. The ghungaroos are stitched, not glued; handle the vamp gently when putting them on.
